What is Prop 137?
Proposition 137 is a ballot measure that would direct a portion of sales tax revenues from purchases and rentals of sporting goods to be used for a variety of programs, including a dramatic expansion of so-called “fuels reduction” logging across public lands. It would lock up and spend over $175 million per year of our tax dollars, with nearly half of the money going toward logging, potentially tens of thousands of acres annually. These funds could otherwise be used to support home hardening grants, essential government programs, or be refunded to taxpayers through TABOR (Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights).
